Spring 2022

  • Our project, Machine learning approach in the design and fabrication of ultralightweight mechanical metamaterials via additive manufacturing, received LAMDA Seed Funding, supported by NSF and LA BoR.
  • Kaya Jones, a junior year student of Biology and Shahrzad Massiha, a junior of Chemistry recevied the LABoR-SURE Award for 2022. Congrtulations to Kaya and Shahrzad!
  • We presented our ongoing work on osteoarhrtis and hip fracture risk using machine learning in ORS 2022!
  • PhD candidate Rabina's second paper on hip fracture risk using FEA got published in the Journal of Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing. Congratulations Rabina!
  • Our work on cellular materials and biomimetics got published in the Journal of Bionic Engineering.
  • Fall 2021

  • Our paper titled "Effect of surgical design variations on the knee contact behavior during anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction" is published in The Journal of Knee Surgery.
  • Saiful Islam has joined our 4M Lab as a graduate student. He will be working on computational and mathematical modeling of cartilage to understand the root cause of early stage osteoarthritis. Welcome Saiful.

  • Isabel Hebert, a sophomer student of Biology and Mynmayh Khamvongsa, a senior of CHEE recevied the LABoR-NSF SURE Award. Mynmayh has been working in the 4M Lab since 2019, while Isablel will start from Fall 2021. Congrtulations to Isabel and Mynmayh!

  • Allison Mixon is the winner of the 2021 Engineering and Technology Week Presentation Competition. She presented her work on cartilage mechanics. Congratulation Allison!
  • Oluwadamilare Ogundiran (Dah-me-lah-ray) has joined our 4M Lab as a graduate student. He will be working on design and development of architected ceullar materials inspired by nature. Welcome Daami!
  • Shahriar Nahian has joined our 4M Lab as a graduate student. He will be working on computional and mathematical modeling of cartilage to understand the root cause of early stage osteoarthritis. Welcome Shahriar!
  • Fall 2020

  • Our project, Tunable energy absorbing architected cellular materials via additive manufacturing, is selected for Consortium for Innovation in Manufacturing and Materials (CIMM) Seed Funding, supported by NSF and LA BoR.
  • Rabina, doctoral student, received UL Lafayette Student Government Association (SGA) scholarship for the academic year 2020-21. Congratualtions to Rabina!
  • Two papers by Rabina and Souvik got accepted and will be presenetd in upcoming ASME IMECE 2020 Conference. It will be a virtual conference this year.
  • Sarah C. Doll and Matthew C. Andrus have joined our 4M Lab as Undergrad Research Apprentice. They will be working with other two UG Researchers, Kent and Mynmayh. Welcome Sarah and Matthew!
  • 4M Lab is recently equipped with Biomomentum Mach-1 multiaxial mechanical testing system for conducting research on cartilage.
  • Fall 2019

  • Andrew Hoffpair and Kent Milton from MCHE and Mynmayh Khamvongsa from CHEE have joined the group as undegraduate research assistant. They will work towards building a bioprinter. Welcome Andrew, Mynmayh and Kent!

  • Dr. Tanvir Faisal received the 2019-20 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award, which provides seed money for faculty in their first two years of a tenure track position. This award is intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities. More Details...
  • The paper titled "A multiscale synthesis: characterizing acute cartilage failure under an aggregate tibiofemoral joint loading", has been published in Biomechanics and Modeling in Mechanobiology and available online.
  • Our collaborative work "Radiolaria Pavilion" with Prof. BoSheng Liu and Prof. Corey Saft of School of Architecture & Design SOAD has been selected for exhibition at the IASS Symposium 2019: Competition and Exhibition of Innovative Lightweight Structures in Barcelona. Congratulations to Jesse, Quoc and Sami for their efforts!!
  • Dr. Faisal has received 2019 UL Undergraduate Research Mini-Grant for conducting research on bio-inspired cellular structures. This grant will facilitate undergraduate research activities at the 4MLab@ULL.
